Can someone explain to me how the FUCK Steins;Gate became basically "Normie's First Anime?" I don't get it at all.
If you go anywhere outside of /a/ where anime is discussed, you'll see it brought up ENDLESSLY, even when it has no reason to be. Not only that, but these same people treat it like it's the holy grail of chinese cartoons.
I don't even understand how they would have found it in the first place.
Naruto, Dragon Ball, Death Note, One Piece: They all make sense. They aired on western TV and spawned a ton of off-shoots, but Steins;Gate? It was never broadcast in the west and the VN only got an official western release like last year.
Does anyone know how it grew to be so revered by entry-level people getting into anime? I mean, I like Steins;Gate, but I don't see how it could've gotten such a high status.

As far as dubs go (which is to say, I'd still prefer the sub), I thought it was pretty good.
I really liked Okabe's voice (can't remember the VA) - I thought he handled his chuuni side and serious side, and the difference between them really well.

SG actually got me into anime. I found it while skimming through a directory for ssbm home run videos and decided to download it.
What do you guys rate S;G with? I might get shit for this, but it easily 10/10 for me. I loved the characters, it was well directed, the ending was perfect, and the story sucked me in so much I finished it in a day. The big problem I hear with this series is that the first half is bad, but I thought it really entertaining. It was basically a great time-travel slice of life series a lot of the time and there was actually a lot of substantial plot movement

Something emotional that it isn't too polarizing, usually deaths
Good visuals
The MC is a male and usually has some sort of wish fulfillment like getting the girl or saving the world.
Good animation
Bonus points for suffering, which the West seems to love
S;G fills that criteria, as well as shows like FMA, TTGL, Clannad, Death Note, SAO, so it's no wonder its popular with normalfags.
