Was Code Geass good? I really don't want to rewatch 50 episodes, in my heart I think it was good. But I'm 21 now and I was like 15 when I watched it. All of these years on /a/ have distorted my view of it.

I was already over 20 when Code Geass aired, so I never thought the show was the best thing ever only to become an adult and reconsider. It's got good parts (most of S1, a minority of R2) and bad parts, but the experience is still enjoyable upon rewatching.

I rewatched it recently, it's even better than I remembered. I noticed a couple new details, such as CC's flashbacks, Lelouch's constant hanging up on people, Tamaki's fuckup before the season starts, and all sorts of small shit.
Orange becomes even better in the first half of season 1 after you know what happens to him.

Code Geass is flat out like a fucking mexican novella, to compare the suspense between each episode and the story as a whole, it kept you in a state of suspense which dropped a little during S2 but with lots of mecha action.
it's a show that was able to capture nearly every genre in a story, which in turn was what made it very popular and succesful, my opinion of it being a very great anime, an anime that i will forever remember because i would watch it on toonami every saturday.

The start of the war, Britannia had an overwhelming victory. Only one small faction of Japan registered a victory, and even Toudou cannot win against Britannia without Lelouch and the Geass doing a lot of work.
When overwhelming military power with zero qualms about genocide exists, you cannot defeat them unless you prevent them from committing genocide.
The only way to do that is to stop them from completing the genocide, getting equal or almost-equal technology, and then pushing them out when the tables turn.
You cannot do that when your entire country is wiped out. They would not have survived against Britannia had they not surrendered. Surrender is what gave the Japanese resistance time to muster its forces for the inevitable showdown. Lelouch only sped the process up because of the Geass. Also, you cannot muster an army if your entire population are made up of corpses.

From Suzaku's point of view, his goal is to be Knight of One, ask for Japan's freedom (or at least make Japan as semi-autonomy state before fully free). He has confidence in his physical capacity and talent as a knight. The other thing he need is for The Empire of Britannia believe and trust a honorary like him. He need Brit to believe that Japanesse were meek (even just for some periodes of time) while he tried to secure Knight of One position. What could ruin it better than Zero fanning Japanesse rebellion when they're nor fully prepared?
Also, he did consider if he died in his effort. But, he didn't give much thought about it. Before he met Euphy, he tend to be suicidal and thought that if he died before his plan succeed, it's a given and his punishment for killing his own father. After Euphy death, he kind of snapped because he know he can't wish for his own death anymore and sold out Lelouch to reach his goal.
