The reason why they they had Kirishima reach out is that if Bakugou hesitated even one second, the plan wouldn't have worked.
Bakugou grasped Kirishima's hand because he's the closest he has to a friend and someone he can see as an equal. They've worked together a couple of times (willingly from both sides even) and Bakugou knows from that (and from fighting him) that he can trust Kirishima on the battle field. Let's look at this way. Bakugou can use explosions to propel himself out of harm's way. But it also means he's going to be caught in the air where his options and mobility are limited. There are only so many buildings left behind for him to possible escape to. He's already being attacked by 6 people, meaning he has to find an opening to pulse upwards and then has to fend off the 6 while in the air/continue an ascension. Deku, Iida, and Kirishima showing up provided several factors:
1. An opening that distracts them enough for him to get up in the first place.

Which in turn makes people either go full defense force (denying any potential valid criticisms) or ignore the posts outright as 'shitposting.' These people are just as bad as articulating themselves as the others.

The idea as to why he didn't just propel himself away was that he was too busy dodging and keeping his distance with small explosions to make then back off, and most likely was trying to plan out what to do but the fighting doesn't help.
There's also the fact that he needs a big explosions to propel himself a good distance and since there's nothing around, they may catch on and immediately try to grab him when he jumps.
The guys coming up from above not only distracted then from Bakugou but also provided a moving object for him to grab on to so he could focus all power upwards and then grab and keep moving away. If he did that alone maybe he wouldn't have enough sweat for another explosion big enough to propel himself sideways and even then it may not be enough to escape the ruined landscape.

How do you think things are going down next chapter? They are holding each other off, and while both may not be in their prime, i feel like All mighty is the one with the shorter hand of the stick in this case, since he has been losing power ever since he moved the torch towards Deku, while AFO seems to be nurturing and helping shigaraki grow up before possible giving his power to him.
I'm hoping they escape, but somehow i don't feel it's going to be that simple, but since AFO can only have so many skills active at once i figure there may be a chance since he can't just swap then out from some inter dimensional vault inside of himself.

We will still get that even if things go to hell. The villains won't automatically take control of japan just because All mighty dies. It will be sad and they will Mourn, but the series has ACADEMIA in it's title for a reason.
If everything does go to hell, they will most likely be in a slight more serious tone since they'll be getting trained to become proper heroes so they can fight the current menace, and possibly even get a chapter where their resolve is tested and if they're willing to fight against the people who could take down the symbol of peace.
