The entire series backs Haruka and Kanata supporting and being inspired by each other's dreams, and the deep emotional connection they share. It wasn't though. There are many times throughout GoPri they could have taken the generic "prince saves the princess" theme but purposely avoided doing so. Haruka's recovery in episode 39 could have easily taken this route with Kanata coming to her rescue, but they had Haruka recover by herself. Haruka being trapped in Close's fake storybook with her "dream" being played out felt like a shot against this. The whole thing with Haruka is that she wanted to become a princess, and she wanted to do so by her own power, not someone else's. Being with Kanata is the easy way out to become a princess, exactly the opposite of the theme of the show. Overall, I think they purposely left the choice up to the viewer in the last shot. If they wanted to go that route they would have just showed Kanata standing there, but they didn't. Saying "Kanata and Haruka most definitely ended up together" seems like it goes against the theme of the show to me.

You know what baffles me?
How people can complain about Maho's villain while also saying GoPri villains are masterfully written and the best in the franchise when during this same period of GoPri everyone and their mom was complaining about how GoPri villains didn't have personality and were boring as fuck too.
And before you bring up Close, his only character trait back was being angry and then being angrier. He only finally started to show some actual personality during the Minami ghost episode and the episode he died.
There's literally no villain, and with this I'm referring to actual villains, no not-villains like Regina or Eas, who is interesting from the get-go. They all start getting interesting during the second half of the show.

They had to move to a new city far away, etc., whatever excuse gets them their own continuity.
I mean, all those world-destroying end bosses somehow overlapped without Cures from different areas of Japan coming together to fight them off except in the movies, so why not?

I don't think anyone's ever said this. I really like GoPri's but still think Fresh has the best villains. GoPri's villains did start out pretty generic, but even by the point Maho is at now, they started showing some different character traits. Maho has really shown no sign of that. They're just there for business/no fun allowed and really have next to zero personality. GoPri's villains started interacting with each other as early as episode 3. Maho villains don't even do that, they're just there.

I liked Close the whole time, but as you said, he actually changed each time he showed up. None of the Maho generals do. However, I still enjoy them for the voices, all except the salamander fucker who just speaks for Dokuroxy.
