I wish I could do HEALING moe SOLs. I've tried Gochiusa, NNB, Working, and Kiniro multiple times each. It's really weird, because I do enjoy them. I find myself grinning and smiling and being emotionally attached, and I really do appreciate them and consider them great shows, but I just can't keep watching them. They drag, I get to the half way point and stop the episode because I thought it was over but there's still ten minutes left. I've gotten at most 5 episodes deep into each of them, I just can't finish them.

Personally I think the scenery porn is a little lacking. It's weird because J.C. Staff has done really amazing background art in the past (WIXOSS comes to mind) but Flying Witch's backgrounds seem a little dull and generic.

Kuma Miko disappointed me because I was hoping it would be a cute coming-of-age story with a concerned parent figure trying to shelter his daughteru from the harsh realities of the world and having to watch on helplessly as she grows up.
However it's just a gag comedy. Same kind of disappointment I felt with Barakamon really.
This was probably a deliberate decision on the directors and series composers though. I'm sure the source material could have been adapted in more of a comfy style with slower pacing and gentler delivery of the comedy.
Flying Witch however is top shelf. Reminds me a lot of Aria.

Personally I prefer it to be really light on comedy. Too much comedy tends to break immersion for me because nobody's ordinary life is that comedic.
Flying Witch has this completely down pat. Almost no comedy and pure healing. If there is any comedy to be found it's just how much of an airhead the main girl is.
If you really want to analyze the substance of great healing anime, I think it hinges on moments where the characters show signs of growth and maturation, learn lessons through experience, come to accept difficult realities, that kind of thing. Renge saying goodbye to the village in the NNB OVA for instance. Watching young people experience this is especially calming because it reminds us of the innocence of childhood. I felt that way when Makoto gave Chinatsu those flowers from the spring fairy and said "he just wants you to like him" and she looked at them for a second while being overcome with one of the lessons of growing up: that even adults have simple desires like wanting approval, and they can even want that approval from children. That's a big life lesson for a kid because kids tend to be egocentric and not think about the actual consequences of their treatment of other people. She quickly replied by asking whether he'd be coming again next year and we can only assume that she's going to want to make amends with him.
But moments like these in my opinion are the meat and potatoes of healing anime.
