we don't exactly know WHAT form he was using against the androids and Cell, since prior to that, we never saw him use the advanced SS forms with short hair.
It's just logical to assume that he was full powered SS, rather than SS2 because A) no sparks, and B) everyone else's hair sticks up a lot more as SS2, and his hair is basically the same amount of lift as his original SS transformation, just more defined locks of hair.
However, we know he is 3-5 years older than when he was in the Cell games, so he logically should be at least SS2.

It's pretty obvious that white will be the next transformation, and it will be introduced by black Goku. He's the villain with white hair.

Both powercreep and villain variety has been done to death in the franchise. It's been nothing but a cash-in for a long time now and it's going to continue being that.

Who will be Buu?
There are many things Dragon Ball Super has done that I disagreed with or found questionable that I should have been mad at, but I ended up accepting it because Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z have always been near and dear to me.
But this just might be it. I've put up with a lot of Toriyama's stupid/lazy ideas for Super, but I have to call him out on Black Goku.
It's so crushing to have to drop this after being such a long time fan.

1) Trunks was the only fighter in the future, 2)got killed right before returning to the future (so zenkai might be in play)
3) Trunks was stronger than Vegeta at that point, he just wasn't as good of a fighter (note the mistakes he makes against Cell)
4) Hybrids do it easier
5) Vegeta always overtrains for poorer results. That's his trope.

I never said good, and you missed the point. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z while not necessarily the best (or good by whatever definition you use) always had a certain charm to it. Super on the other hand just feels like a lazy cash grab. One could certainly argue/points to the original or Z where they showed signs too, but even when toriyama introduced a new form or villain they had a charm and uniqueness to them.
Super is just reused, rehashed, and recolored ideas. It has lost the charm, that made his previous works enjoyable and fun despite not being the best or "good".
