The the problem is that no one knows what the proper way to post is anymore. You've got people trying their hardest to keep redit out that they've made up their own idea of what proper /a/ behavior is, but everyone has their own idea of what that is, and if you think you know what it's supposed to be, then you're one of those people. So you've got all these voices that collective call everything redit that you now have people pushing back until it becomes endless noise. People can't even lurk to learn proper etiquette because lurking just exposes you to endless shitposts. Fuck, just telling people to lurk can get you a reply telling you to go back to redit. The board is just terminal now, and the mods sure aren't helping.

It's a problem with any community as it grows larger. A larger community requires more moderation in order to keep things relatively on track, and then more and more lines have to be drawn. What would have been allowed before as a one off thread now must be banned otherwise people will think start they should be regular threads. People all rush to their generals since they only want to discuss what they've seen rather than take an interest in what is going on in the board as a whole.
Honestly there is no easy solution, although mine personally would be to have draconian moderation for a short period. No shitposting, ironic shitposting, all generals deleted on sight. Attempt to cull the population except for the hardcore /a/utists, and then lax off once the population is at a much more manageable level.

Agreed, this was my exact frustration with sound threads, which I think is a microcosmic illustration of morons ruining nice things.
Originally, it was maybe a weekly thing at most, and it usually died before hitting post/image limit.
Then they started gaining more and more traction; it turned into a daily thread, and then "didn't see one in the catalog so let's have a thread".
Finally, it turned into a cancerous general where people would make a thread, dump all the same shit they did in the last thread in a race to the image limit, and then immediately make a new thread. Some people would actually delete an image from one thread so they could post it in the new one while the old thread was still alive, and I was almost glad when sounds got banned.
Same with r/a/dio. Everyone kept running the same memes into the ground and spamming the board with threads.
I'm glad threads are still allowed for certain holidays, but I'm also glad it's not every Tuesday/Friday anymore,
