If I recall, and I may be wrong, the whole shadow realm is pretty much made up on the dub. There are only shadow games, where people bet their souls or whatever. When someone goes to the 'shadow realm' that nigga is actually fucking dead.

And Egyptian Gods are way too tame for that. Osiris (god of the afterlife) got killed by his brother, and his wife tried to bring him back. She managed it (for a short while) but he passed on again after because death is a big deal.
Luckily she got with him when he was back and had a son (Horus) who avenged his death.

Konami changed the rules from the way Kaz originally created the game. He infused the card game with RPG like elements which was why stuff like Giant Soldier attacking the Moon and Catapult Turtle launcher happened.
Konami threw all the RPG stuff out when they started making cards and didn't keep all the effects that Kaz made in the manga.
