I think the problem is that half the time, LNs get adapted into manga and anime later by publishers which is why people think that discussing LNs belong to /a/.
Meanwhile, /jp/seems to only discuss idols, touhou, and VN and nothing else.

Unfortunately, a lot of people would think of Mushouku Tensei when it comes to WN because it's the most actively discussed WN here at /a/ at the time and people were so curious about it because it was a self-insert thing like it was the hottest thing on the planet.
Now whether it was the first one or not, I'm not sure but it seems quite a few people measure up a WN with Mushoku Tensei and that syosetsu (the WN Japanese website; the equivalent for the West would be royal road if you are curious) has a lot of that type of series.

I just read the raws actually (though I had to painfully read through the google translation) butsurprisingly enough, Asty isn't dead. Levein's back from his comatose thanks to shinigami and throws away Riku because apparently, Rook's a much more useful sacrifice since what's needed is the blood of a Barusak/Balsac and Rook's a full-blooded one while Riku's only half and isn't spiritually inclined. Oh and Riku sold her other soul to the shinigami (her real one, not her reincarnated one which she sold already a long time ago) for a chance to kill her pops.

I've never seen a problem with it. Medievalish level world usually with magic items that force a slave to be obedient and other things. Then you add in the fact that there are usually lots of different races that are on bad terms. It makes sense that some races would sell off their enemies or races they consider their enemies as slaves.
Personally I think Adventurer's Guild is a much weirder thing to exist.

MT I still like and Knights and Magic I have some respect for (MC is your typical OPMC but it's not about him so much as how to build the best mech ever) but other series with male MC's I can't stand.
of the two, the ones with female MCs don't really update all that much and selection seems pretty limited so I'm mostly reading the chinkshit, which is mostly generic and formulac as fuck so I only read a handful of them (though at least they update frequently). Yes, Harassing Thief Girl made the translator upset when he realized that it included the soul of a perverted guy in a loli seducing and having sex with girls.

Essentially, LNs are just pulp paperback serials that are designed to be read like manga on the train or at home: they're colorful, character-driven, and easy to pick up and put down.
