The early digital stuff looked bad mostly because it was still standard definition with 480i resolution. The stuff made after 2006 or so looks fine because it is made at 720 or 1080p. Anime (and animation as a whole) just rushed too quickly to become digital. So some good shows like Princess Tutu cannot be put on blu ray.
