Why haven't you bought the bundle that will save manga distribution, /a/?

Maybe get something actually good there.

Those are the guys that fund defenses for people arrested for 2D loli, right?
>>
>>141087333
And like, had physical and digital releases ages ago already too, which you can probably easily find online already as well.
>>
>>141087386
From their description, it seems so.

What do you mean "save"? The market is doing fine even with all the piracy, it would of course be doing better without it and with more people investing on digital distribution, but it's fine.
>>
>>141087386
And Mental Health Foundation, that's actually a pretty funny combo.
>>
Pretty good for 1 cent though
>>
>>141087403
If you are a legalfag, the bundle is cheaper than buying the volumes individually, but honestly, who in their right mind would pay for an official release of something that already got scanlated several years prior.
>>
>>141087333
same with all the videogames they ever had
>>
>>141087228
This. I'm never going to pay for digital comics / manga.
>>
>>141087600
With vidya you at least get a Stem key and not all the games they put have been pirated, but with this bundle all you get is a bunch of manga that already got scanlated years ago and nothing more

It's pretty disappointing, to be honest. I gave Humble a bunch of feedback after their last manga bundle on how to improve on the technical shortcomings of their offering, and with this bundle it's actually gotten worse.

All the formats they offer are flawed one way or another. PDF is the least flawed with just having bloated images and incorrect black levels. EPUBs have quite downscaled JPG images with bad black levels as well. But then there's the CBZs, and boy, those CBZs are a completely fucking disaster. Picture very much related.

Yeah, my expectations weren't exactly high based on the quality of their last manga bundle, but this managed to genuinely surprise me in how bad it was. Like, damn.
>>
>>141091323
Christ almighty, it's pretty clear nobody bothered to check that. I mean yes I understand that I too can be what others would call 'elitist' about these things, but that's fucking illegible.
>>
>>141089066
It's like I'm reading through a rough patch in a scanlation from 2006 or something.
>>
It's sad that most legal versions of manga are lower quality than scanlations (besides whatever Daiz is working on).

By the way, post the quality of a page extracted from the pdf version.
>>
>>141089066
How do you fuck up CBZs? They're jbasically zip files.
>>
>>141089066
This is why you don't pay these fuckers.

>By the way, post the quality of a page extracted from the pdf version.

The PDF versions has unresized images, much like in their last manga bundle. It's definitely better than the bad resizes in the other versions but it's not exactly optimal either.

And the main reason it's not optimal is really because of the black & white pages. Because the pages are so large they're going to be taxing to be quite taxing for whatever program you'll be reading these with because they'll need to scale them down in realtime.

Not to mention that halftones are pretty much the most challenging thing to scale down in a nice manner because of how easily you get moire patterns. It'd be much better idea to do at least some high quality downscaling beforehand to save the reading applications a good amount of effort. (I had to crop this page a bit to fit into the 10000px size limits of this board.)

Also, while the black levels are correct in this version, they're sadly messed up in the actual PDFs where black doesn't appear as truly black.
>>
>>141093055
The saddest thing here really is that they obviously have good digital source material to work with (these PDFs essentially contain said source materials), but then they just go and perform pretty much every mistake in the book to mess things up for distribution.

Huh, if the pdfs have the original quality then it's not so bad after all with conversion tools to process them. Sucks for those who rely on the other provided formats, though.

Or just like, not buy it I guess.
