We're remarkably similar in a number of ways, the only exception being that I'm a lot more vulnerable to smug comments than she is. We can tease each other about things, but she'll end up winning nearly every time. Otherwise, it feels almost narcissistic.
That said, I'm like a giant stood next to her - she's 4ft8, I'm 6ft1. As another anon kindly pointed out yes, that does make it easier for her to elbow me in the groin when she's annoyed. Also makes it easier for me to headpat her too, so I think she's the beneficiary here.

We have a lot in common when it comes to interests and stuff. We're both girls with an interest in anime, specifically mahou shoujo, and eroge, with a huge love for imouto characters/themes. We both like/dress in flashy, gyaru clothes and dye our hair because of it. We both have an arrogant streak and tend to get carried away when arguing, the list goes on.
Like I said above, she is a bit arrogant, and she has a perfectionist attitude that often leads to her overworking herself to achieve what she wants, and she is pretty tsun. Kyouko sacrifices herself because the plan to "save" sayaka went horribly wrong and if they didn't act quickly Madoka and Homura could have also died, so she made a sacrifice to save MADOKA AND HOMURA HER COMRADES. This combined with the guilt sayaka felt due to perceiving the downfall of Sayaka as being her own fault because of the age old excuse of "I could have done something about it/I could have done more" that most people feel after losing a close FRIEND led Kyouko to the decision that to atone for her perceived "sins" and to save her friends, she had to sacrifice herself.
This is an age old trope that is seen in many war movies and even video games.

Considering all they had were eachother, it makes sense that your comrades would be what is most important to you. I love my friends and would stand by them to the end if it came to it.

I'm not arguing Homura having borderline obsessive feelings for Madoka. Rebellion only emphasizes this fact and I am not refuting it, though the kind of "Love" Homura feels for Madoka is still not completely concrete (though I wouldn't be surprised if its as a love interest.)

This is a fact, but allow me to further clarify. Like I said earlier, Kyouko felt guilty for what happened to her comrade Sayaka. She saw Oktavia as Sayaka suffering, and wanted to "atone for her sins" by ending her friend's suffering as well as "avenge" her in a sense. Plus, they would have to kill Oktavia eventually anyways.
