You know, I don't know if it was just shitty directing or them needing a random excuse to keep Shimon away from Narukami so that Benio and Rokuro still have to struggle, but this episode certainly made it seem like Arima knew that Yuuto was still kicking around in Narukami and wanted him to meet and fight Rokuro and Benio.
I don't remember the manga implying such a thing.

Pretty much sums up how I feel about it too. It's a pretty standard shounen with all the cliches one would expect. But I still am fond of it, mainly due to the destined couple thing. I'm a sucker for anything with a canon romance that starts early rather than waiting until the very end (same reason I enjoy stuff like Rakudai despite everything else about it being mediocre).
