Mimetics. You hear about all the sweet memes that come from the series and decide that now you're part of a select group with a running inside joke just obscure enough to make you feel inclusive but well known enough so that you can spread your inside jokes with other like minded people.
It's a long running popular shonen jump manga (granted not anymore, but it was for most of its time), of course it has a huge fanbase. There's like several threads about Naruto, Hunter x Hunter and One piece all the time so I don't see why Jojo is any different from those.
