It's a very comfy somewhat surrealistic anime with gorgeous scenery and a beautiful soundtrack.
The lack of continuity between episodes and casual acceptance of the characters of bizarre circumstances make the whole thing feel like a animated dream.

Some episodes are comfy indeed but most of the time i felt nostalgic or even depressed like at the end of the episode you feel empty and the only thing you want to do is to go on a journey.
The anime can be really violent so i don't know if you can really call it a "comfy" show.

The novels themselves are still going but translations aren't. They drop off around volume 16 (out of 19 volumes total).
I've been translating some chapters for myself but I'm not confident enough in my Japanese to put them anywhere.
