Yes. That's what happens when you do basically a 1:1 adaptation. There's some small changes that make a world of a difference. One thing I noticed is that in the manga, all of the Inner Senshi have a dream about the talismans but they don't talk about it among themselves because Naoko. In the anime, Usagi runs into the other girls talking about it in the arcade and she brings up the dream herself.
It seems quite minor but things like that add a lot of flow and relevancy to those small scenes and that's what the first season didn't bother doing.

I think part of it is also that the source material got better. Naoko's writing will never be great, but even the manga became a better/more exciting read from season 3-on wards after she let the Usagi//Mamoru MIrakuru Romansu take a backseat. Havign said that, they were kind of cute/behaved like an actual couple this episode, which was nice.

You're so right on that. I was worried that because Crystal was so unpopular that they wouldn't go on to adapt the rest of the series. Toei still deciding to do it AND bringing on new staff is the best thing that could happen desu.
And the first two arcs are quite easily the weakest arcs. The problem with Crystal is that they didn't try to build on the good ideas that Naoko had like the other adaptions do. Crystal showcased the barebones and worst aspects of Sailor Moon.

Man I am enjoying this Season so much.

I think that it helps that most people that have seen the 90s anime, never read the manga. Me included
The manga is so different from the 90's anime, it's always a suprise seeing what happens the next episode
Combine that with good writing,characterization, and decent animation especially compared to the first 2 seasons and you have a good remake.
Shame it couldn't have been this good from the get go, but i'm glad Toei finally realized.
