If there's a carpet at the place, I always go barefoot. If they have wood or tile then it would depend on how clean they kept the floor. It helps that my feet tend not to absolutely reek and also that I clean and trim my fingernails and toenails religiously. Wearing some type of footwear at all times is too constricting.
