You should just give Mononoke a shot, and probably Spirited Away and Kiki. Yeah, they're childish and for kids, but that's the point. Miyazaki wanted to be Disney, to write and make gorgeous and brilliant kids films, not anything particularly deep.

Anno made a couple of okay series and one good adaptation of a shit manga. If anything, he's a decent director who has been kept from doing anything meaningful after Eva became the most popular anime of all time. Comparing him to Lucas isn't really fair since Star Wars was never that good to begin with.

Kojima was forced into MGS4 through 5, 1-3 were all absolutely brilliant and not hack-tier at all. 4 was bad because closing up the plots from 1 and 2 were nearly impossible, so he had to make up bullshit to answer questions he had never answered.
PO, PW, and V were all mediocre because there just wasn't any story left to tell. He was forced to make them, to answer questions that didn't exist, and that's just an impossible, herculean task. He did well considering what he was tasked with.

The first movie was a disaster that took two re-edits to actually make work. And everything good about the movie came from people besides Lucas.
The next two Star Wars movies had even less involvement from Lucas and more outside help. Lucas didn't even direct them.
And I don't think I even need to point out the prequels.
Star Wars was a fluke. It got massively popular thanks to going against the dark city/Detective craze of the 1970s, massive marketing and the wow factor of special effects. But after Empire, it just went downhill.

Outside of works like Dragon Ball and Arale, he is mostly a designer. And he worked with one of, if not the best game designer in history to make Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger.
