The new movie is complete Naruto-tier trash that stole our budget. Because it's heavily implied that Leo Corporation JUST released fusion/xyz/synchro cards and the corresponding curriculum, and that those cards are very hard to come by and must be obtained by being a student of a prestigious duel school.
Reiji never used any of the other summoning methods in any recorded match before he dueled Yuya for the first time. I think it's safe to say that most of the cards Standard duelists used up until that point were "prototype" cards that were designed specifically for their archetypes by Leo Corp itself.

Like Yuzu didn't even understand that she had to keep her fusion monsters in her extra deck, so it's probably safe to say that she had never even heard of how to use polymerization, or what it even was used for.
