It was never going to have some sort of award winning plot. You had people complaining their rice cooker getting destroyed in the first few episode. You have an all boys submarine school, you have girls going shopping on a giant floating mall and winning toilet paper. I have no idea why people are so hung up on the plot not being 'Hunt for the Red Harukaze'. The plot was tailor made for the sole purpose of having an excuse of two sides trying to blow each other up in WW2-era ships, never mind the fact that we have yet to discover how the rat spread its infection. But apparently, rather than the usual 'secret biological weapon', it's automatically 'fucking magic'.
