Reworking volumes is not unusual, apparently Katsura went the other direction: had nudes in the magazine and first volume edition of Video Girl Ai (and indeed, in my 1993 localized version there are such nudes) but removed them from the other editions since he was afraid people would mistake it for porn (to be honest, it wasn't completely unfounded, it got pretty risque at times and dealt with pretty adult stuff for a pure love manga).
