I love S1 that is what I thought at first but in the end S2 had so many memorable moments and improvements that made it my favorite season.
The scenes I remember the most are mostly in S2. The hardware store, the day they temporally lost their club room, the concerts at the musical festival, the Kyoto trip to name a few. Those episodes has good moments but it was not just cute fun they also had themes that affected the characters like Mio accepting that she is as silly as her friends, Yui and Ritsu working hard to go to college, the entire group realizing the importance of appreciating the things you have while you still have them. Even Yui (of all people) voted to practice before eating snacks. Or the always responsible Mio rejected her recommendation letter to stay with her friends.
The band it self feels more like a group of close friends instead of a bunch of silly girls put in the same room. In S1 they still have this awkward reactions to each other antics but by the end of S2 and the movie they pretty much know what to expect from each other the only exception would be Azusa became more distant/strict near the end but some might see that as a defense mechanism for the imminent goodbye.
And is not only the main group their classmates used to be nameless background blobs but in S2 they had their own names and personality. Sawachan also toned down the "lol so random/crazy" personality and dropping er normalfag charade. I don't know if this counts but Nodoka started to tease and mess with Yui, but I cant tell if it was a change or their relationship was always like that but it was never explored.
Of course I am not saying that S2 is perfect. It as plenty of faults but I think that the pros outweigh the cons.

The thing with K-on is that you either love it or hate it is rare to found people that have a in between opinion but if you at least found it entertaining there is a good chance you end up liking a LOT . Like that other anon said it all depends if you grow attached to the characters. The show as this easy going relaxing feel, and the characters go from one mundane activity to another during their 3 years together. Contrary to what the name might suggest is not the music but the group of friends friends and their interaction what becomes the center of attention.
I think is very simple but well told story but it takes time to enjoy is not something that should marathon it.

I never watched anime based around cute girls doing cute things, but I decided to try it out starting with love live which I kind of enjoyed. Then I was recommended to try K-on, so I did, and I stopped after the first episode. I don't know what it is, but the animation combined with the personalities of the characters just makes me so unbelievably mad, no character acts cute, they just act retarded.
