For all it's flaws I liked Love Hina better. Tenchi was still feel in the "guy gets women all over him without him doing anything" cliche. MC of Love Hina had to actually work for his harem.
Though if you are talking about anime specifically Tenchi is undisputed since the Love Hina anime is garbage.

I personally love 90's anime music, but all that just about ever gets mentioned are the same songs from the same anime that have stood the test of time. No one ever talks about the OPs for Tonde Buurin, or Generator Gawl. Or even Mahoujin Guruguru or Ninku.

It doesn't really, shit like Tank is an outlier. Outdated pop music just doesn't hold up without nostalgia, it sounds cheap and low quality. That will be true for current pop music as well.
We're generally living in an era of degeneracy. Most everything current in the consumer / media space is net inferior to the past. In retrospect there's a fairly clear gradient between any two arbitrarily sampled points.

Most of those are just 90s pop. If you like or have nostalgia for 90s pop, they of course you're going to like the OPs more, but there's nothing inherently better about them. I wonder about consistency as well, because I'm sure if you looked at lesser-known 90s anime without a nostalgia factor there would be a lot of shitty pop as well. Later anime might have more genuinely shitty OPs, but that's just from the virtue of there being way more anime produced in general. There's still plenty of great OPs being made.
