Redline's worst fault is a poor story and pacing over the art and animation. The preview that came out of the movie, which is the first 10 minutes aka the Yellow Line race, is by far the best part of the movie. The actual Red Line race is pretty fucking bad. Its less wacky racers, and more "all these racers barely see each other or fight each other, and instead wipe the floor with hundreds of random mook soldiers because of this shitty setting for a race"
and funky boy literally ruined the whole fucking movie

Fuck all that extra shit about bioweapons and shit.

GitS innocence has some god-tier sequences but the beginning 30-35 minutes is full of still frames while Redline/Akira/Metropolis have constant character movement (primarily Akira and Metropolis, which is primarily on 1s)

Redline was never about the story, it was the one thing the medium of animation can get away with that live action can't, a tribute and show case of pure spectacle level animation at a time where big budget producitons are dead. There is always something wonderful about the beautiful work of what a man can do with a pencil. The whole movie was just a set piece to set piece to show off animation skills. It's beautiful and the non-hardcore animation fans hate it, which makes me love it.
