Hey f/a/gs, I wanted to get into manga so I got this stuff recently. Judge me. Also thinking of getting Tokyo Ghoul and The Irregular at Magic Highschool LN and the spinoff manga.

Why did you only buy 1 manga if you wanted to get into manga? You could have probably bought more if you didn't spend money on 3 rolls of toilet paper.

This belongs into the buyfag thread.
You can make a buyfag special edition for manga, but don't just turn it into a blog all about you and your small-time entrylevel purchase.
>>

Didn't read DimensionW, but nothing can be worse than fucking akame ga rbage. DN definitely is although overall still not really worth buying.

You know /a/ is full of new fags when Akame shit is the worst manga they've read.
>>

>Akame shit is the worst manga they've read.
This.

I also don't really like it (reading it because of 2 characters), but saying this is the worst manga ever is just obvious shitposting. Even in it's own genre there are way worse titles than it.
>>
>>140802360
It's the Mars of Destruction of manga. Not sure how anyone could say that irredeemable mess of shit of a series was ever not crap.

They aren't known for good taste, but this is a whole new level.
>>
>>140802672
>>140802509

I wouldn't say it's the worst thing ever, that's truly an overstatement, I think the author could've just improved on a few places here and there and it would've been a lot better than what we got. The entire thing just feels like a draft.

I just recently got The Push Man and Other Stories along with Onwards Towards Our Noble Deaths in the post this week. Going to order more manga over the weekend, hoping they'll come next weekend, I was thinking of adding in some more oldies like Tezuka, either going for the two Astro Boy omnibuses out now or get something like Dororo or Ayako since I've been wanting to read both for a while. I also need to fill out my Asano collection more since I got the Punpun omnibus last week. Also my Nichijou volume 1 is finally arriving next Wednesday.

Are the two What a Wonderful World volumes slowly going out of print or something?
>>
>>140802675
I've been reading comic books for over 10 years so my taste in that is fine, I know what's good and bad. I literally just decided to try out manga this past weekend and picked these up at Barnes & Noble because from the short research I did they seemed pretty popular and I wanted to read something current as well. I'm all open for suggestions for current manga that is good.
>>
>>140803137
>You didn't reply

>>
>>140803044
No.. no, they aren't. Bleach, even if it goes to shit soon after, starts out with a fantastic multi-thread arc with a great ending. And Kubo's art/composition is really good.

Fairy Tail is basically AgK without the juvenile edgy shit, so it's automatically better.
>>
>>140803169
>they seemed pretty popular
That is a shit reason to buy anything, ever.

The only thing that you should select for its popularity is your instant messenger, and that's only because your friends are going to force you to install the most popular one anyway.

The stuff you bought with the exception of Yotsuba (which is actually good) are trashy entry-level action flicks. For good stuff you can probably find at a local store, pick up A Silent Voice or The Ancient Magus' Bride.

>>140803388

That's bullshit. Most of Asano's stuff is localized, there are great ongoing series being released, even classics from the 60s like Lone Wolf & Cub are available.

Do you not realize how massive the manga industry is? You absolutely can't buy even a tiny percentage of the good manga out there in english. Most don't even have scans on the internet.
>>
>>140803714
I knew there would be criticism. I like all 4 of them so far honestly, but I know that I dont know any better when it comes to manga. I was hoping for some suggestions of current manga that is good. >>

PS is mediocre and overrated but calling Berserk shit is top memetaste
and yeah, DN caused a lot of cancer but it's definitely influential, and not awful.
>>
>>140801416
Honestly, I think this is the worst place to ask for recommendations. /a/ is so full of elitists and hipsters they'll automatically exclude from their suggestion anything that is/was popular.
My suggestion is: lurk more, read the first few chapters of what you're interested in on the internet and decide what's worth buying for you.

Anyway Death Note and Yotsuba are great to begin with if you're new to manga, and Tokyo Ghouls should be fine too, just don't watch the anime. I never read the other two.
>>
>>140803850
I'll never allow my collection to look this disorderly.
>>
>>140803155
>Are the two What a Wonderful World volumes slowly going out of print or something?
Where do you get that idea? Might be, they were released in 2009 after all. Both volumes can still be bough on Bookdepository though.

>>140803672
Cheers. Mori's afterwords are fun.

>>140803592
Definitely get Nausicaa. The scanlations online don't even come close to that fantastic hardcover edition.
>>
>>140804060
/a/ likes FMA and HxH, both extremely popular mainstream shounen. AgK is just bad.
>>
>>140803940
Nah, both of those are good. If you're brand new to the medium, you can't go wrong with the FMA 3-volume books (rather cheap, $15-$20 per book), and while kinda expensive, the new Jojonium volumes of JJBA are really, really pretty, and Jojos is always a good choice.

But yeah, for ongoings, those are great. Try to pick up the rerelease of Akira, as well as the nice releases of All You Need Is Kill and Uzumaki. All are pretty common, fairly priced, and great reads.
>>
>>140802360
>Why the hate for Akame ga Kill? Legit question
The setting has all these rules, but during one point the author breaks them because he didn't want his favorite girl to die
>>
>>140803850

Maybe you'd have a point if you're talking about pre-1999 anime, and even then it depends on the companies just like BD, but any show getting released from 2000 onward (anything not done on film) to today won't look better than they already look on DVD and BD due to the resolutions those shows are done in.

Take a visit to your local library and just check out a bunch and give them all a read. That's what I did when I first discovered Manga when I was 11. Shortly after I discovered anime :)

You'll find a lot of stuff you like, and a lot of stuff you don't like. Read a bunch and have fun with it! Then read BAKUMAN because it's about writing Manga.

Edgyness is bad only when it's used to cover up the shortcomings of a story, when it's so exaggerated that you stop caring about the characters (because the author kills them at an insane rate, case in point: Akame ga Kill), or when it's basically such a gorefest you coul call it pornography of violence (I'm probably gonna get some shit for this, but I'm looking at you, MPD Psycho). I haven't finished the first series of Tokyo Ghoul yet, (I'm almost there), but so far I haven't seen edgyness used in a bad way.

okay, makes sense

OP if you want to get into manga, a medium that is sold in tankobons you can read in two hours, yet cost the same as a real book, you should read scantalations or viz rips online to find what you like before spending a shit ton of money of stuff you don't.
Or like >>140815102
said, go to the library.
