The ending explanation for the spheres was conclusive enough, but pretty abrupt. Not even an epilogue for the characters or the state of the world after the invader's ship was destroyed.
There was sense that the story was building up to something with the explanation behind the psychics and vamps as well, but they're just kind of left on the backburner.

Lack of explanation is one thing; there's nothing wrong with stuff, even big stuff, remaining ambiguous or unexplained so long as there's still a point to it and it works in the story. Gantz's issue isn't the lack of explanation, it's all the shit in it that ultimately doesn't go anywhere. The vampires being the big example, or even the tacked-on feeling the endgame invasion has. Kurono's character development was nice, but once that came to its head the series lost almost all of its steam.

See what happened was this. The giant aliens tried to conquer to conquer other galzxies becuase their star died. The tried to conquer the planet where the God alines lived but were easily defeated. As the giant aliens fled the god aliens sent a message to the humans with military technologies to fight them off. Humans being stupid turned it into a game. The giant aliens came and they were defeated.
