Tbf, /a/ rarely talks about '80s anime anyway unless it was meme-worthy, which Bubblegum Crisis wasn't. It's not a terrible show as fem-driven shows go because bitches in battlesuits vs robot death machines is based, but it gets really tiring watching the male mains get shown up over and over again and get made to look incompetent just so a pack of skanks can take all the credit for winning with their OP-as-fuck garage tech.
Plus, chick tropes. All of them are each a walking chick trope.

In the original run it's atmospheric as fuck with cool visuals and a god tier soundtrack. All the other sequels and reboots are made more cheaply so details like the bad voice acting, lame characters, and bland storyline become much more obvious.

Style-wise? No.
Substancewise? It manages to far surpass the original because the original OVAs had so little actual substance and no overarching plan or plot.
They're not bad. They're fantastic to watch, but they thrive on their wonderful 80s style and animation. Take that away, and they're woefully generic.
