Many EDs tend to fall on panning stills of characters and/or background art with nothing visually inspiring. Of course it's not like there aren't any lazy OPs either but I don't think EDs are superior to OPs in general. Either of them can be good or bad, but OPs tend to have the edge by nature of having more money allocated with allows for better animation and staff on it.

I agree that they are not priority for a lot of shows, but I just think they're better because they're usually more calm, more down to earth, and more "poetic" than OPs, which a lot of times are focused on making a kind of synopsis for the show. It seems like OPs are made to draw the attention of those who haven't watched a show, while EDs are made to make you remember a show fondly after you've watched it.
I usually prefers ED over OP, since studios tend to choose that generic upbeat pop style songs which get boring fast, I find EDs tend to be more varied.
