Maybe because it was just non-stop suffering and less fun. Look at Episode 13 and 14 as opposed to what follows afterwards: it was serious and less crazy but it has moments like the Saki energy drink commercial and Cardboard Akira.

Horrible pacing (though to be fair with 13 episodes to wrap everything up they were screwed no matter what). Poorly developed and dropped plots. Utter waste of characters
