There are several ways to portray drama without being forced, man. Have you read Touch by Mitsuru Adachi? In the middle of the story, something tragic happens, but the author portrays this in such a subtle way that the effect becomes even greater. Subtlety is something that the author of KnK doesn't know. Torturing a cute girl is the cheapest way to get tears (and money) of the audience. Anyone can do this. Ueno hate the girl just because.
