Thunderbolt was great, I went into it expecting to see ZEON SCUM the entire time, but instead I got a really well-rounded portrayal of either side. Can someone contextualize the ending though? I assume its right before some big event in the show or something, but I haven't gotten around to watching all the classic Gundams yet.

I liked it although it wasn't something I'd call great. I think the main issue was that we didn't have much time with the characters so we didn't get to know them a lot and care for them. I loved the style.
If it was made into a movie or a full series it could be genuinely great, although the pacing might get utterly fucked if it's not done right so it's certainly risky. I'd certainly be up to watch more of it though.

This is the franchise that Gen Urobuchi draws most of his inspiration from as a relatable point of reference for modern anime fans. I love that modern anime fans god genius of writing is concerned not with the moral ramifications of one of Kamille's earliest most personal kills (It might actually be his first intentional one) as was the intention but the fact that some sexy onee-san character died on screen after having a shower scene earlier in the same episode. Honestly the chances are pretty slim right now. That's not to say it won't happen eventually, but right now the manga is ongoing whereas the OVAs ended at a neatly self contained point.
There's more chance that one of the other popular manga will get adapted (right now everyone seems to think it'll be that other 0096 manga). Whatever the case, it's certainly set a nice precedent.

Aside from being a bit unconfortable due to feeling her emotions while they fought (which gets pretty much resolved right away) and a bit of "revenge is useless" stuff when Jarid fights him, nothing really came out of that from Kamille, her death's whole point (aside from reinforcing "everyone can die" feeling) was giving Jarid his first revenge boner.
Aside from that she's basically forgotten of right away.
