I actually find this more interesting than simply killing her off. I read this to see the characters struggle, and while killing off Kurumi would have plenty of potential for the others, you can something somewhat close while having Kurumi struggle with her own nature and the fact she pretty much killed that guy now.
I do hope she (or someone else but she remains the best candidate) dies at some point, but for now dragging it on as is looks to me like the better choice.
That said, I agree that the manga plays it a little too safe, which is perhaps the reason I found this chapter's developments surprising. She basically lured the guy outside. Sure, he could have quit the pursuit at any point, but she could also have lost him easily.

I guess? But at the same time dead is dead and kind of by definition he's hardly alone in going that way, and it's not *that* drawn out. It's awful but in much the same way that dying in a fire or drowning is awful in terms of not being instant. Many deaths in actual IRL accidents and the like are actually somewhat drawn out, or even worse and more. Hell, I'd pick zombies and having it all over in <60 seconds vs all those earthquake victims buried alive and dying in the dark over a period of days.

It's an unfortunate situation that HE CREATED though. Frankly I have really, really minimal respect for a person who does something like that in such a situation. They're facing a massive death threat and frankly it doesn't look like there is much of humanity left, period. They're also in a pretty good place relatively speaking: a decently stocked, well maintained and defensible living area with numerous facilities, the ability to sally forth for additional preserved supplies, etc. Anything that actively jeopardizes that is just Too Dumb To Live.
And even then, at least some forethought makes sense. Even if they did decide force was unavoidable, it'd make sense to go as a group, equipped as best they could, and with planning and contingency planning done upfront. Hurr. Really, the worst part of a slow, dumb zombie outbreak like this is the initial bit, and then staying slow, steady and careful in terms of supply management and collection. Once you've actually got a zombie free defensible nice living area, and plenty of canned goods in easy range, then survival for a good decade isn't particularly hard. Longer if you can start growing stuff too.
Unless the zombies are magic that should be enough time for them to rot and stop working, and without any new supply of fresh humans to convert they'll vanish on their own. Just have to be careful of anything lingering if you're connected to an area with permanently freezing temperatures, but Japan doesn't have that problem.
Frankly the REAL threat pretty quickly isn't zombies but other humans, same as always.

The place the city is located is named after some snek god, and that in ancient times the people of the land would perform a ritual to appease it or whatever. The last time a plague hit the (then) small town was in the 60s, and it wasn't until recently that Randall Corp redeveloped and revived the town and grew it into a city.
The extra chapters are all neat, especially Megu-nee's written confession/last will and testament where she writes about events prior and regrets and concerns she feels about her students, Yuki especially whom she noticed started regressing because of her.

Why did the anime art look so off model?
I can't help but feel some anons think this is some kind of Hollywood horror film, and that means there is a formula of decreasing the main cast one by one through the story.
This isn't what this manga is about. The author has a story to tell, and the main cast is what he used to tell it. This isn't going to slowly cut down on the main cast, that harms the plot. Until they reach Randal the cast will survive. Even Shovel's superpowers is just a way to justify a little girl's capacity to fight against full size adults.

The way I see it, they will survive, humanity will go on, and all that. There is no need to kill any of the girls, because they suffered enough already. The nation of Japan is a mess and it would be decades if not centuries before society could rebuild. There is no harm in having a happy ending for the survivors, it's not like they are ever going to live to see the return of civilization.
