Old DBZ used to have humongous gaps in power, which is why there's almost no close or equal fights in the entire thing. Hell, there's basically only one fight where one character is stronger but it's not a complete stomp, and that's Base Goku vs Frieza.
But usually it's one character able to take punches to the face without damage and treating the other like a rag-doll if they're just a bit stronger.
In Super on the other hand it's like the power-ups don't even mean anything. Base Goku fights the same way against Hit as SSB Vegeta does, when SSB should be like 100.000 times stronger. Same with the Frieza arc. People who BTFO'd Cell and Androids suddenly job to his henchmen because they didn't train for a couple of years or something, meanwhile Muten Roshi plows through them.
There's simply no more coherence in it. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since at least it makes the fights more interesting. But you have to take it as a ret-con.
Also, it's still up in the air if SSB is as strong/stronger than the red God form. It's never stated not to be but I just can't imagine it considering God Goku was basically destroying the universe, yet Blue Goku jobs to everyone.

Saiyan saga, Goku's dead for the majority and comes back for a fight. After the fight, he is crippled.
Namek Saga. Spends 3 months in a bed, healed by Yajirobe and then goes to Namek. Fights a couple of mooks on Namek and then spends half of the remainder in a healing chamber. After he's constantly fighting Frieza.
Androids. Comes back after Frieza arrives at Earth. Trains off screen for 3 years. Gets punked by 19 due to disease. Spends next saga in bed. Comes back near the end of the pre Cell games where he trains his son off screen in a room while the others fight. Comes out to fight Cell. Dies.
It's pretty much the fact that DB focused on country retard Goku and the gags around him were due to Toriyama being a comedy mangaka. Z had VERY little focus on non-fighting Goku, even in the anime, and when it did, it was comedy with Goku getting brained by stones, almost getting his head cut off for a laugh and driving lessons, most of which is non-canon.
Super Goku is smarter than Z. It's just that theres no foil for Goku atm. He is a focal point and we get twice as much screen time because of that where as Z was more set up for Goku to die and Gohan to take over, which happened in the Cell saga.

Didn't even happen with Super Buuhan and Vegito despite them being light years stronger than early Super Goku and Vegeta. Normal Ki users have to focus on killing a planet to achive it. Frieza was a MASTER of destroying planets and couldn't pull it off instantly on Namek and even Buu did it intentionally on both attempts.
Destruction God ki probably accounts for why beerus and Champa can do it offhandedly but I don't see Goku, Vegeta or Hit doing it. The last proper planet bust we got from outside a gag was Frieza doing it in 4th form and he had it all planned out and got lucky with Vegeta not acting before thinking.

Goku never went ragemode in that way, he at best got angry enough to unlock SSJ, that's it. He never got a massive strength boost from his anger, that has only happened to Vegeta.

They will eventually. In Toriyama's backstory for Dragon Ball Online he had Goku and Vegeta's final battle destroy a star as collateral damage, and that was before Battle of Gods was even a thing. Though if we take into account the new material with Super Saiyan Gods and all that, the feat makes a lot more sense than it did previously.
Regardless, he had them reaching that level of power before they started facing off against Gods of Destruction and shit, so it's likely that they'll reach that level by the end of Super too.

Vegeta got a power boost to SSJ2 to defend Bulma but that doesn't mean he overall stronger than Goku at that point either.
