I think what it takes to succeed remains the same. You have to have a real love of your sport to carry you through all the bad times, you still want to go ski even when things aren't working. You must have a commitment to work hard and to never give up.

I'm translating a doujin right now and I'm kinda confused on the nuance of this sentence
>たったさんかげつで。。。
It only three months
>この人に 犯されるように 抱かれてから
This person who is committed to fucking/ravishing(?) me.

Now, does this mean that it took 3 months for this chick to get mindbroken/corrupted, or does it imply that she's already been corrupted for three months?

If anyone wants the context it's from
http://exhentai.org/s/93f03bde8c/527536-19
>>
>>140666442
The former. It took her three months go get mindbroken counting from the first time she got fucked. I think.

>>
>>140672887
Kanji isn't even the hardest part of Japanese. Long after kanji stop being an issue you will still be grinding vocab.

If you want to learn to handwrite / do production type cards, then RTK is a good way to go. It's particularly helpful for visual / kinesthetic learners.

You spend more time upfront becoming familiar with the kanji in order to save time later when learning vocab: they are easier to learn and tend to be easier to recall due to the familiarity. Production type cards tend to really cement your understanding of a word in your mind earlier than just recognition, but both production & recognition equal out in the very long term.

If you just want to read things to consume recognition works just fine, and might even be faster if you don't mind it being more difficult up front + possibly lower retention rate at first.
>>
>>140673237

>>140673265

>>
>>140673476
That's why you only read completed manga and get your weeb fix in VNs/LNs.
>>
>>140673468
You have to learn the pronunciation of new words even if you already know the kanji. You wouldn't have to memorize the pronunciation if kanji didn't exist because kana make it obvious. I think that's what he's saying.
>>
>>140673492
There's no real size, I tend to write them on an enlarged grid that I print out: http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/custom/centimeter-black.pdf

The main thing is that no matter how simple or packed together the strokes are, the character as a whole should occupy the same square space.
>>
>>140673850
>the character as a whole should occupy the same square space.
yeah I give a lot of attention to this

I got banned from PSO2, so I'm trying to send in a support ticket to get this resolved. Now, the only problem is that I'm a baka gaijin and don't know runes, but someone made a rough translation of what I want to send in. Should the guide mention something about how long to use Anki Core 2K before getting into Tae Kim?

Most of the vocabulary introduced in Tae Kim doesn't appear until after about a week of Anki. Not saying it's impossible, but I'm definitely getting a lot more out of Tae Kim returning to it after memorizing some of the kanji first.

>>140679803
I read Tae Kim during it but nothing else.

As for now, the hardest VN I read cover to cover very comfortably was Akeiro (https://vndb.org/v18495), I barely needed to look up any words (maybe 20 through the whole game?) which felt pretty good, especially since it has a significant plot.

>b-but you'll never get a vocab of 25000 at that pace!!!
No you won't, but again at the beginning you're also spending a lot of time on grammar and such, and vocabulary gets easier over time because kanji stops being a problem and words are interconnected. When you start reading after finishing Core 2k and Tae Kim you can easily learn 20+ words a day purely through osmosis.
>>

I think the number people should be reaching for is closer to 10,000 anyway. You won't be reading Muramasa at 10k but you will be able to conformably consume the vast majority of content out there. Any unknown words will very likely be isolated in the middle of sentences you otherwise know the words to so it's easy to go from context.

What do you think happened after 6 months? I finished Core2k, and then I did a mining deck, and I still did 10 words. It's closer to 1-1.5 years. And I don't regret it because I read in that time and that was more important than anki. My only regrets are that 1) I didn't read MORE, starting from day 1 rather than 6 months in 2) I didn't do listening practice nearly enough 3) I didn't do RTK

Engaging is hard to find. Even well written and interesting stories can be boring due to the way VNS are written in general. Your best bet is Dies Irae, I haven't heard of anyone not being immediately engaged by it.

Why won't Anki give me the amount of new cards I'm telling it to? I changed the new cards amount from 20 to 100, but it's still saying I only have 20 due. What's going on?

(I'm only doing 100 cards a day for the next few days since I'm just playing catch-up with stuff that I already know pretty well.)

If you mean as a first VN, then your options are pretty much Axanael or Flyable Heart. Flyable Heart is good because it has a throwaway common route and good routes and a multi route story that all ties together. Almost anything you read you're going to butcher, so Flyable Heart's throwaway common route or Axanaels all around low difficulty once you get into it are pretty much your best options.

I corrected that chart but I lost my correction so I'll just mention the games not suitable for a beginner (but still playable if you want to!)
- Daitoshokan
- Twinkle Crusaders
- Clannad
- ***Monobeno*** (this is no joke, FULL of thick dialect and medical terminology, whoever put it on there was tricked into thinking it's a simple lolige)
- Aiyoku no Eustia (it's too good for that)
- Himawary (same)
- Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (one of the longest VNs ever written)
- Natsukumo Yururu (appearances are deceiving)
- Sekai de Ichiban Dame no Koi
>>
>>140681408

Think about it, if you had to pause to consider every letter, going through english vocab would be slow too right?

I don't see the need, its best to read what you want to, not what a chart tells you. Plus VNs are just great in general for learning since they're texthookable for nearly instant lookups along with one button card creation with the sentence you got the word from, have a very wide range of difficulty and vocab/subjects covered, are usually fully voiced outside of the MC, have a great mix of narration and dialogue, have visuals to help give context sometimes, etc.

Going by years is a bad idea; someone could be reading easy light plotge without having to look stuff up too often within a year, whereas someone else could spend a whole year on just Flyable Heart.

Just put in time, dedication, and consistency, and when you get to the point where you can read just learn to enjoy the journey and have fun reading rather than worrying and stressing over long term goals.

At the top I said:
"Ultimately the best thing to do is read what you want to"
My goal, which I think I accomplished fairly well, was to provide some works of certain difficulty levels. I didn't want to recommend novels as novels themselves, because there are plenty of sources for that. I myself don't think HatsuMira is *that* good, but it was certainly a step up in challenge.

Good taste as for Kangoku though.

>>140685989
on the real i think a chart is not that useful because everyones different

difficulty is a misleading term because of course you dont know stuff (words etc) you dont know but its not hard to pick up and learn the stuff you dont know. it just takes time and effort

id only honestly apply "difficulty" to things that require really good reading comprehension to get the most out of which is a entirely different skill as most are stuck on the kanji and grammar and oh my goodness theres no english counterpart to this phrase parts

thats not to say something like 群青の空 doesnt require any reading comp though

>>
>>140686187
Well, it's all right when you're talking about a book, but other than that it just sounds dumb.
>>
>>140686907
I read all those games, so I can explain in simple detail why their difficulty is "real" - the vocabulary is a stratum higher. You could read 50 moege and still be blown out by Bradyon Veda, because Bradyon Veda is hard science fiction that covers topics Moege pretty much never do. I don't mean to say Silverio Vendetta is harder because of any phantom reason, it is harder straight up because its vocabulary level is very high. That's it. HatsuMira's vocabulary level is challenging, but not as much. Sci-Fi nukige are challenging, but not as much.

I for one think the chart is helpful for people not really into the VN scene, but still reading VNs to practice. Bradyon and Silverio are both games easy to overlook compared to the universally known Dies Irae and Muramasa. One may not think to read through some sci-fi nukige to pound out that vocab in a simple setting. Hatsumira is not something anyone talks about, and may not be something one would expect to be hard. Etc.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, anyone who has read primarily moege will struggle with the middle row, and struggle a lot more with the third row. So even though "everyone's different", everyone can use that chart as a reference of some difficult games, should they desire it.
