Because that's hard. It's much easier to write protagonists/antagonists when at least one person is inexplicably evil or severely overreacting to some trauma.

Apart from the CG monster bit towards the end, this show was amazing. The slice of life episodes are all 10/10

Pretty good. Balsa's beta orbiter was kinda annoying, shit like this is okay if you're a teenager but at this age he really should've moved on.
