The entire point of the series was that there is no rose colored life, but as long as you actively participate in life things will turn out pretty alright and fun

And that nobody is as two dimensional as you think they they are

He actively participated in life in like every episode though. I'd say it was mostly about why we shouldn't chase after an ideal.
>>
>>140602813
The last episode he didn't participate in life and that was the worst path he took , and made him realize all those other paths were great
>>
>>140602861
Except that they weren't, because the faggot took too long to realize that he had to ask Akashi out. And he was miserable for several other reasons.

I get that the point is that just living life is better than sticking to some grandiose plan, but they didn't do a good job showcasing that.
>>
>>140603124
How do you figure? In most of his paths, he seemed to be having a pretty fantastic time. Doing things he liked, spending time with people he liked, and generally having a good time. He just poisoned it in his head with this silly idea of a rose colored campus life. He needed a change in perspective more than anything.

Also, Akashi would have been waiting for him no matter what, but that's not even important.
>>
>>140603203
Except he wasn't happy, it was all in pursuit of a higher goal. The paths were all failures just because of overamition

dude, the moral was pretty obvious. He thought he was having a bad time because he had an ideal that didn't exist. He even says that he was happier in the other paths.

He wasn't unhappy. He only wishes for a repeat when he's getting super introspective and considering all the ways things could have gone better. When he's just living his life he's getting along just fine.

I want to fuck your penis, then.

I watched this show my freshman year of college. Now that I've graduated, I'm really glad I watched the show when I did. Tatami 4.5 promotes a good mindset to get involved with people, enjoy life for what it is, and keep moving forward without dwelling on mistakes.
>>
>>140603203
>>140603307
Akashi is important. It breaks the "realism" of the series, by having her wait for Watashi no matter how much he fucks up. You can "just live life," but that doesn't mean you can get a girl and be happy instanteanously.

I honestly do not understand why this series gets so much praise. It is good, but it did nothing extraordinary and it's message is a simple one.
>>
>>140603253
He was unhappy because of his mentality.

If he just took a second to take everything in for a moment, he would've seen what he was life truly was.

It was right in front of his fucking face the entire time
>>
>>140603614
You're looking at this to narrowly. She's important but she's not the key to Watashi's happiness or anything like that. Rather, Watashi being able to seek out Akashi is an indication of his own realization that everything has been good all along.
>>
>>140603604
Most modern anime does this
Less doom and gloom anime.
We need to inspire our hikki population to go out there and work and please have kids
Even the neet in re zero still works out and takes care of himself
>>
>>140603753
What? He was obviously consumed by his idea to be with a "raven-haired maiden."

Before you or anyone else says that Akashi is semi-realistic because she embodies an opportunity more than anything, let me just say that that is not the case for everyone. Akashi makes the whole thing very hard to believe, but the fault does not lie on her.

And besides, Watshi just saying, "Man, remember when I was cock-blocking myself? Good times" is fucking cheap. His change in mentality should have been something he consciously acknowledged, he had to realize he was his own worst enemy. But instead the show just shows him gaining an epiphany about everything and going along.

Again, I did like Tatami, but it had some flaws that prevent it from being "life-changing" or whatever some anons here extol it to be.

You're looking at this too narrowly. I'm not even sure what you're arguing for.
>>
>>140604578
I'm saying that for a show that wants to teach its audience something about life, it isn't very realistic.

And I'm also saying that I don't get why nearly everyone on /a/ says it is amazing, if it's message is simple and the show itself could get repetitive at times. Saying Watashi be a moralfag cock-block for like 4 episodes straight is no fun.
>>
>>140604533

And that's honestly alright.
Everything is gonna work out, even if it doesn't quite go the way you want it to.
>>
>>140605115

Your criticism is 1) it isn't very realistic, 2) the message is simple, and 3) the show itself can get repetitive at times.

(3) is silly, since the plot of the show is literally that the protagonist repeats a part of his life. Maybe what you really meant is that you thought this made it boring. This is subjective; I thought the visuals were unusually compelling and the plot changed enough that I never got bored.

Re (2): yes, the message is simple. Why does complicated = good, for you? The show is great because it doesn't just *tell* you the message, but also uses the structure of the show itself to reinforce it. This is not so common. Most shows are either arc-based or episodic. Tatami is episodic, but also only makes sense as a unified whole.

(1) also just depends on your personal experience of reality. Personally, I thought it was very realistic, even though none of my experiences remotely resemble Watashi's. I can identify with his desires.

>Akashi is important. It breaks the "realism" of the series, by having her wait for Watashi no matter how much he fucks up
Akashi is not a person and she's essentially completely irrelevant.
Her role is limited to a mark of success or failure that is visible to the viewer.

>It is good, but it did nothing extraordinary and it's message is a simple one.
What more do you need?
It's a simple message executed extremely well.

This is the fucking definition of a rose coloured college life.
>>
>>140606479
Yeah she's a mark of success but she does have a personality, although it's not developed quite to the extent of others. I still enjoy her interactions with the cast.

iirc, in the novel, Watashi gets with Akashi-san at the end of each arc, but still regrets his years wasted complaining and dicking around.

He finally realizes his mistake in the final arc though, just like in the anime.

It's as much about about making the most of the present to achieve your ideal future, but the anime didn't really express the other theme of not regretting your perceived mistakes and considering them part of the journey.
>>
>>140606569

Yes and no. The rose-colored life is defined primarily by being a fantasy. That's why it's "rose-colored"; i.e. you're not looking at real life, but imagining some nice alternative life with "rose-colored lenses." Kind of a "grass is always greener" thing. No matter how much fun Watashi's real life was, it would never be rose-colored, because by definition what is "rose-colored" is what is whatever life he isn't currently living (this is his thought process).
>>
>>140606724
You know, for how much I love the anime, I never really looked into whether the novel's plot was different or not. Interesting.

How people can miss the message of the show when it is explicitly stated over and over again is beyond me. It's the same with NHK threads and it's turned them into unbearable havens of blogshit and /r9k/ posting.
>>
>>140606724
>but the anime didn't really express the other theme of not regretting your perceived mistakes and considering them part of the journey.
Yes it does. He literally says at the end of each episode "If only I hadn't joined that circle, perhaps I could have made other choices that would have led me to my rose coloured campus life" before realising by the end that those weren't mistakes at all.
