It made me cry and I fucking called it. Also I was on Zoloft at the time so that's saying something.
Clannad was pretty good. The "big spoiler" wasn't even the most emotional scene for me.
Although if you haven't watched it, I'd recommend you play the VN with the old translation instead. The show does the humour slightly better, but everything else in the VN is way better.

After Story was interesting for other reasons, not because of the shitty magical ClannAIDS nakige stuff that wouldn't have surprised you at all even without being spoilered.
Keyshit is extremely formulaic. There's like 7 or 8 arcs where something sad and magical happens to every single character in the show before getting to the good part. Anyways, the answer is probably.

No. The most emotional episodes were the ones with Ushio, and there was nothing surprising about them.
Maybe the knowledge of what happens to Nagisa would even make the slightly boring first season more interesting.

It's not an entire show but an individual episode (well, two), but an example of drama that got me is Jupiter Jazz from Cowboy Bebop. I don't feel that's a good example though. The issue I have with Clannad's drama isn't with its execution but the sheer amount of it. As soon as things seem to turn for the better, something happens that makes everything go to shit again. It becomes predictable and it felt unnatural (not just to me either, Okazaki himself states towards the end he feels like fate is messing with him), ruining the impact it would have otherwise. I kinda wish I was able not to see it that way and appreciate it.
