He's weaker. What made dangai strong was that he was fused to his sword and it was operating at it's peak before it burns out like a flame. Current Ichigo is just a really strong shinigami. He's still separate from his sword.

Both versions have Ichigo fully embracing all parts of his power and his Fullbring training has apparently only made him stronger, not to mention that his Quincy powers are fully awakened after fighting Quilge and he has Royal Realm training.

I'm still betting on the Soul King and his comatose crystal thing being something he was forced into, not something he did by choice. I'd assume the 5 Royal Families saw some threat to their stability, subdued the guy together, threw him into the crystal, and then built their society around that. The Shiba probably got the boot for trying to fight for the Soul King's right to autonomy and his own will. The Shihouin are all about the secret treasures that seem built to dismantle various aspects of soul society, like the armor that seems tied tot he Soul king, and the shield and spear that broke the execution glaive. Incidentally, I also assume Uryuu's whole role as heir to The A will involve Yhwach trying to throw him into the crystal in his place, and that Jugram, in a blind stupid fit of jealousy will try to jump in instead, binding half of Yhwach's power and leaving him vulnerable enough to fight on semi-even terms.
