In one of the arcs he loses a duel with a knight and has Emilia drop him. This become one of the lowest points in Subaru's timeline so far, wherein Rem come in and helps him at his worst. Using his will to redeem himself and Rem to push him forward as his key motivation through all the horrid shit they put up with then goes off and beats an epic boss. Only for Rem to turn into a vegetable during this fight. This is where Subaru then kills himself because he cannot bear this kind of end. To find out that there was a savepoint AFTER the bossfight making him unable to go back in time to save Rem.
What is even more sadistic is that the author made a "what if" series where if that didn't happen Rem and Subaru get married, with children.
But seriously fuck the author. After reading it I was in physical pain.

Alot of the tension and suspense does not get taken away due to the time resets, rather, the fear and tension of emotions is amplified and focused upon Subaru on times like these. A lot of people are arguing that Erased is better despite its tension being written off and the mystery was never even compelling. But so far, the tension lies on fear alone which does not get written off by Subaru's ability from what I see.
Just watched the first 3 episodes of the anime and they were great.

The one thing that pissed me off here was that he browsed here and was looking through the suffering pics and somewhat wrote it off as forced drama and unfazed.
