Anyone watch this as a kid?
>>
Nobita was literally retarded.
>>
>>140414614
Still watch it time to time

And when a new movie releases
>>
Didnt watch that but i did watch crayon shinchan as a baby. In colombia they would show all the new anime on some japanese channel that my uncle had. It was pretty great.
>>
>>140414614
I read the manga when I was a kid.
I think this already became a household name in my country by now, along with DBZ and Case Closed/Detective Conan.
>>
>>140414614
me.
>>
>>140414614
Doraemon, Conan, Chibi Maruko and some power rangers/ sentai shits made my childhood.
>>
I started reading manga when I was 6. Doraemon and Dragon Balls are the very first. I only started watching anime when I reached 23, because I wandered in a K-On thread 5 years ago.
>>

You have to make/buy one first, then send it to your past self.
>>
>>140415245
This. Doraemon is a true bro.
>>
>>140414695
I hated Nobita as a kid. I crumpled his face on the last page of a particularly annoying chapter and my sister got mad at me for messing the book up.

Watched it dubbed in fucking Spanish with Portuguese subtitles
Loved it, it's one of the pillars of my childhood animations along with Digimon 01-03 and Captain Tsubasa

We didn't have sliding door closets at home, but when we came across one in the hotel I insisted on sleeping inside it like Doraemon. Then just came out 1 hour later because it was hot as fuck inside.

Did anyone catch the recent English dub? Despite the name changes and slight censorship, it's actually pretty good.
>>
>>140414614
If you live in the eastern hemisphere, this guy was a big part of everyone's childhood.
I have the complete tankoubon and the original daichohen saga when I was roughly in 5th grade.
Still watch it on Sunday mornings when I have the time.

Where did this even come out besides Japan? Because I doubt we have that many Nipponese here.

>>
>>140418564
It did. A channel here, NTV7, airs it every Saturday 1930hrs, reruns every Friday morning...before that it was a long runner on the public TV station tv1.

Took a flight on the Singapore Airlines once and found that they had some eps on the in-flight entertainment system as well. They were subbed, not a problem with that...but the subs were in Mandarin. Much disappointment...I thought the text was to be in English.

>>140418464
No, it was just USA, Canada and few other places. Pretty much the rest of the world knows the existence of Doraemon a long, long time ago.
>>
>>140421450
I've known that it existed at least 15 years ago, but just thought of it as that really popular show in Japan that no one else cares for.

Though Wikipedia says there have been Spanish and some SEA dubs as well. Plus some more recent ones, but those wouldn't be childhood memories for people allowed to post here.

>>
Yeah. I used to have a big collection of the comic, too.
>>
>>140422472
I mean, it is much longer than 15 years. It reached Italy since the 80's along with other anime.

It just amuses me than there was nobody that believed Doraemon could be sold in the country full of immigrants like USA back then.
>>
>>140414847

This anime is so obscure outside of Japan.
>>
>>140423829
I mean I was aware of the series by 2001 or before, I just didn't know it was a thing outside of Japan then.

We got Shin-chan and Chibi Maruko-chan here though. About 50 episodes of them.

It hopped channels in my place, from NTV7 to Astro Ceria [pay-TV channel geared to kids]. Even when it settled there, it didn't bring in as much viewership as Tsurupika Hagemaru-kun did - now that was Ceria's top seller a couple of years ago.
>>
>>140414614
I watched it in the mornings before going to school.
It has been broadcast almost every weekday morning since around 1994 in my local TV station.
>>
>>140424331
It's so obscure, most of /a/ won't even know what it is.

It really was. They really had all the characters down perfect. Mona Marshall and JYB really shined as Doraemon and Nobita. Even giving Shizuka a little more snark and wit than she does in Japanese worked out in it's favor. The edits got slightly more maddening in the second season, but it was still enjoyable.

>That feel when Disney XD hasn't aired the show since October
>No rips of anything past the 39th of 52 eps available online since the ripper was slow

Unless the Japanese owners in charge of the English dub put it on Netflix (they really fucking should), it's dead before it even really got a chance to start here, we'll never see the English version of Stand By Me, and it'll be sad seeing "literally who" responses when Doraemon is trotted out at the 2020 Olympics.

At least a based Singaporean helped me out by helping import the first 4 volumes of the physical version of the Amazon Digital-only English translation that was only available in SEA. (Come on, Shogakukan Asia, stop slacking and put out new volumes!)

>>140417318
There were various attempts to bring it to America since the mid 80s. The first attempt was cancelled right before it made it to the airwaves. The rest of the attempts consisted of companies couldn't even get their foot in the door. So Japan had to take it into their own hands.

>>140416646

I'm still surprised that they actually said it was dorayaki in the first episode.

It's far better than "fudgy pudgy pies" used in the English digital version of the manga.

I should've phrased it better...I meant that the channel loved + heavily promoted the show like Nick did with SpongeBob or something like that. (I'm not sure how frequent though, because again...
> a couple of years ago
...so my memory's kinda fuzzy. Also, uni happened.)

No DVDs I'm afraid...though that would've been a great idea.
