I never really understood why people bitch at each other this much, it's not like it matters really what it is defined as. And even then there are different shades of it too.
AntiMagic was a battle harem, but it focused much more on the battle part, and the romance aspects were pretty much in the back seat.
Yahari counts as a harem since there are multiple love interests. But it acts more like a traditional love triangle than anything else since really only two of those love interests have any real relevance.
Gifting is technically a harem, but it's mostly about a bunch of assholes acting like dicks to each other. There's no romance involved until five volumes in, and the bloody main heroine isn't even a love interest for the MC.
My point being even if a series may qualify by as a harem by number of love interests alone, if it doesn't focus on that or doesn't use the classic harem genre tropes then I don't think it really matters.

Not it's not. Re:zero actually has a personality to its characters and the villains have their own set of sins that they became a part of. They have their goals but eventually this is all trial and error for Subaru. He continues to die but he at least has development as a character to be divided from the rest to understand his own burden and redefining himself which a lot better than having no character development and individuality which a lot of generic mc seem to have many faults as to good writing.
