Just to add to what >>140368052 mentioned, 00 is a very solid and well drawn show because it was the first Gundam tv series created in HD digitally and they made sure it looked good, but as far as *animation* goes, it's pretty middle of the road, I think I'd describe it as a workman-like effort? Does the job as much as needed without ever really being special.

Everything that was released more recently set in UC benefits heavily from you having seen those shows first so you know the context. For example, you CAN watch Thunderbolt which spans from 0079 to 0080, without any previous knowledge but it doesn't establish the UC setting itself that much so you have no idea who these Zeon guys are and shit.

It's watchable but if its your first Gundam series, I wouldn't recommend it since its only a 4 episode 18 minute ONA made promote the manga. Not to mention not all the episodes are out.
