Amerifat, I know you're used to getting As for not being brain-dead but some countries have standards

What country do you live in where someone with no scores above a 90 would be in the top ten in the grade overall?

While inflated in America, A's should still be the top 10% or so of grades.
If you're giving tests where nobody scores at least 95% correct, you probably fucked up or are teaching literal retards.
>>
>>140357312
How the fuck do the standards drop so fast? There's a whole 100 point drop in just ten students. What the fuck? Is getting the highest possible score supposed to be impossible? I thought students even go to cram school.

The aggregate score is there for a reason.
Schools mostly rely on them instead of individual high scores. It means that a math wizard that is a dumbass in English can be dragged down by his weakness subjects.

Oh hey, AP Calculus!

But seriously, the teacher was shit, I managed to get a B in college when I had to retake it again.

Hanekawa isn't Koyomi's classmate back then.

Must be an either lowest tier or highest tier school

I live in England and at university level a 68% would constitute as a B+. Personally I've always found it bizarre how 60% is basically a borderline fail in Burgerland.

AP exam score matters for getting college credits

The grade is for your GPA
>>
>>140358814
Is going past a 70 really difficult or something? That's a good range.
>>
>>140358690
In college, most colleges only except C- towards your major. Which is 70% depending.

>went to a college where it was a C minial grade towards your major.
>managed to fuck up so many time because you were getting C-s in your major core classes in your first two years.

Still graduated on time, but those first two years really fucked me over, especially freshman year when I had a bout with depression.
>>
>>140358738

>>
College as a whole is either a joke or ridiculous depending on what classes and professors you have.

>that one SJW teacher who didn't teach her subject at all and only assigned projects about social issues
Fuck you Ms. P
>>
>>140358011

One of my classes this semester has tests which consist of multiple questions worth 70% of the grade which anyone who put in the time to study would be able to answer correctly and then one very difficult question at the very end that tests mastery of the material. You only need to get a 50% in the class to get a C, but a B requires a 70 or higher.

Not surprisingly, the mean grade in the class is a 55.
>>
>>140358738
You don't have to write a light novel for the foreign language exam.
>>
>>140358813

>>
>>140359051
It's always the English professors/teachers. Why?
>>
>>140359102
English is all about manipulating words and concepts; it's no surprise the type of person that teaches English can skew what the course outline vs material is to suit their views.
>>

>dat one Intro to Anthropology professor who made you buy $150 worth of books but ended up using 1/3 of one book and only talked about genealogy and the NY Giants.

>>
Having actually taught English to foreign students (Taiwanese) and gotten reports back on the average grades across multiple classes and the statistical impact of my involvement, it's actually not that surprising. To have more than three students in a single class consistently perform at an A level is pretty rare, and a number of otherwise talented students will struggle with specific subjects.

And before you say that school was full of idiots because they didn't have a bunch of straight A students, it was the second highest rated school in Taiwan, actively improving (through programs like the one I was involved in) to try to become the best, and the students I taught that I still have contact with today have gone on to national universities and mostly study engineering.

Hard sciences, mathematics and engineering usually requires a logical mindset and are very clear-cut courses. English, on the other hand, can be taught anyway the teacher desires.

You should always wait to see if the teacher actually extensively uses them. Or better yet, just rip it off from some torrents if it's going to be a one-time use thing.

When a thread like this comes along I'm always surprised in how many people are into humanities.

The general 'personality' of a 4chan post points towards someone in STEM or a similarly inclined major, with contempt towards fake degrees like women's studies or English, yet every time someone comes forward and actually names their field of study, it's always some useless shit that teaches you nothing (real world skills-wise) like English, Literature, Philosophy, and the like.

Japanese tests are hellishly hard.
Not in the sense that you need to be smart to ace them, but they're completely based around rote memorization and on being able to recall information exactly as it was written on the textbook down to the tiniest comma.

Even their maniacal cram school usage only fills them with more info that's just soaked up as unusable blocks of 'memorized' info that's never really absorbed.
The typical Japanese student will be able to solve a rote problem that uses a standard formula of any complexity in a split-second, but even an elementary problem that deviates from the standard application will leave them stumped and unable to do anything.

"Fortunately" tests are geared around what they knew a student is told to memorize to perfection, so you can have straight 100 students that are actually incredibly shit at applying their knowledge.
