I, like many others, took my time catching up and all in all it took about a year and half.
I casually slipped in eps where I could and binged every once in a while when the plot ramped up (like 491).
As long as you don't expect to catch up overnight, pace yourself properly, and outpace the broadcast (more than an ep a week) you'll effortlessly catch up.
Also using the movies as milestones is great since they break up the formula for a little bit more action.
