what made that series so great in my opinion was that it had a rotating character cast for every arc. Some people stay, some, maybe your favorit ones, get brutally killed.
and characters like Suzuki, Sakata and Sakurai were well written and added so much to the team and it's dynamic.
I know katastrophy was ment to wrap things up but it really fucked with the formula and what you got was Kurono running to safety for a whole arc while encountering random people every here and there. It didn't work.
