I'm watching this now. I'm on Fifth Stage. Is it just me or would Keisuke make a better protagonist than Takumi? I mean, Takumi is awesome and all, but he barelydrivesthe storyline in the First Stage, except for being 'that mysterious Trueno driver'.

I was re-watching Extra Stage 2 the other day, its from the same studio that did Fourth Stage. Holy shit, they really should have gone with them for Fifth Stage, they actually tried to authentically replicate realistic car movements rather than relying on teleporting and other weird shit.

This CG is a special kind of shit but the eurobeats game ridiculous.

Yeah the CGI aged like shit. If they make non-CGI one with more focus on the racing and less commentary of people on the side it would be a lot better. They only had 5 seconds of racing with terrible CGI before turning down the eurobeat so people could voice their amazement. The later stages would be better with the old artstyle but then again they are shit to begin with.

Six episodes in and there's already a very noticeable improvement in the CG. Luckily the CG had improved a bit by episode 4, but it's first particularly noticeable when the R32 debuts.
The main problem with the CG at the start is a complete lack of any sense of speed, which they seem to have improved so far.

The sense of speed massively improves. It is, as you said, noticeably slow at the beginning.
Once they got to episode 18 they decided on using light-speed, and its awesome.

I think the speedproblem is because they mostly have shots from them turning corners. The few shots of them on a straight-way are a lot faster, which is probably why they dont do them, since it fills less time

What's the point? To some extent, did exactly that in 4S and 5S and it only hurt the series. Initial D's made great by its characters and its soundtrack - the racing is a major element, but if you want it to be even more major, to the detriment of other elements, then why not just watch regular motorsport?

because seeing a car race down is more fun than people gasping about how fast the car is racing. If you time the amount of time there is eurobeat there is only 4 minutes per episode. And that is if you count the parts were they turn down the volume so people can talk.
4 and 5 were shit since they werent allowed to lose and takumi mastering teleportation. The races themselves were good in the sense they had more meat but I agree the lack of characters is rather poor. Of season 5 only the race with the grim reaper guy was good.
