DBZ characters have never shown themselves to be PHYSICALLY as strong as many of their shounen counterparts. Most of their power is in the raw destructive force of their ki blasts.

Dragonball characters are strong due to ki blasts, not raw physical strength. A lot of anime and manga surpassed Dragonball in physical feats.
Hell, even New 52 Superman (one of the weakest versions) can lift the weight of the planet for 5 days WITHOUT his power source and did it easily.
DBZ characters can break rocks and mountains and islands by smashing into them, but most of their power is just ki blasts.

And yet ironically the most useless, ineffective tactic one can employ in the DBZverse is pelting the enemy with a full barrage of ki blasts, as they will always be standing completely unharmed at the center of the dust cloud as it dissipates either smiling smugly or grimacing with mild annoyance. We're only a couple posts in and we're already at DBZ's hilariously inconsistent everything, where do we go from here? Logically by this point they should be annihilating entire solar systems with their more powerful ki attacks and yet the most they usually do is blow up a mountain or something.
