After episode 16 I shut the fuck up and enjoyed the show and it's one hell of a fucking show.

The appeal for me was the mystery and humanity's hopeless situation. The hopeless feeling went away the moment Eren turned into a titan and as the mysteries get revealed, they turn out to be boring shit.
It's a problem with a lot of mystery manga that the authors put all these clues into them before they even know what the end game is. See Cage of Eden.
