Read someone saying her body was designed by a man who generally based his work off of European women; was sort of nebulous as to whether they were talking about the character that designed her parts or the original artist who created her character. Any sauce on this?
Still working on the first season of SAC so I don't have a clue, I'm just tired of seeing endless "muh whitewashing ;-;" every time I click on an article about the new live action with ScarJo.

Never heard of it. In SAC the explanation given is that Kusanagi's body model was briefly popular 5 to 10 years before the series began, considered a "generic tall female body" (since Kusanagi's 168 cm tall, I think) in the Japanese consumer market. It was considered particularly forgetful and got pushed aside in favor of the next best thing. It offered custom options for hair and eye color, and Kusanagi went with the choices she'd taken as a child (purple and red).
So in SAC, there's not anything to suggest it's based on a Caucasian woman (not to mention in the series, a few witnesses identify her as an Asian woman, more even more specifically as Japanese due to recognizing the model, from appearance).
But that's just Stand Alone Complex. I don't recall the manga addressing the origin of her current body, nor the film. Perhaps Arise does.
