In 1202 the Pope has called for a new crusade to take back the holy land after it was conquered by Saladin during the third. A group of devout young women from the kingdom of France disguise themselves as boys and join the Kings army to retake the holy land for the glory of their lord Jesus Christ.
Our heroine, Cateline, and her friends leave their homes in France and March towards the holy land. Each girl will come from a different background and different true motivations for joining the crusade ranging from lust for adventure, to running away from home, and of course true devotion to the Lord. Perhaps one could be searching for a brother or something. Along the way they would meet a young German noblewoman and the daughter of a Venetian merchant, both of whom join. Maybe they meet the daughter of one of Saladin's heirs later on in the story too.
The story would feature slice of life moments as the girls try to survive life in the army as they start to realize they're in for way more than they bargained for. They would all get stuck with jobs around the camp like cooking and maintaining equipment, but they still find time for fun. Maybe our heroine becomes a squire. Along the way they learn to fight like good little crusaders.
Eventually the army would come to Constinantinople where the first major siege would take place. Here the girls face the horrors of war as they battle it out with hordes of Muslims. Due to their bonds of friendship they are able to use teamwork to accomplish great feats that amaze the rest of the army. After the city is taken, it is revealed that Cateline and her group were girls all along and, after the king decides to let them stay, their group becomes a sort of mascot for the crusading army which reinvigorates the campaign and boosts the morale allowing it to march on to the rest of the Holy land.
Throughout the show the characters should be shown dealing with internal struggles regarding their faith, philosophy, and their choices.

The third crusade was launched because Saladin took Jerusalem and a bunch of other cities after the battle of Hattin, then during the crusade the crusaders took back the ones he had taken but stopped at Jerusalem's gates after their logistics were too stretched to continue and a negotiated truce happened. Saying "Saladin took the holy land during the third" is utter nonsense.
